Conditions

  • Ageing Skin

There are many factors that influence how fast we age and how that manifests itself in the skin. Skin aging is influenced by skin type, amount of sun exposure, smoking, diet, alcohol consumption, stress levels and exercise all potentially alter the skin and its health.
  • We are all able influence some of these factors by making sensible lifestyle decisions, but sometimes medical and cosmetic intervention is the only way to get the results you may want.

  • Your derma uses combinations of the following therapies to help aging skin:
    • - Specialist skincare products
      - Chemical peels
      - Fillers (restylane, vital, teosyl, sculptra, radiesse)
      - Botox
  • Unwanted Pigmentation
The skin is a complex structure consisting of different layers of cells and supporting materials, each having specific roles in maintaining the skin's function. The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin and is where the pigemented cells, know as melanocytes, are found. These cells produce the dark skin pigment called melanin.
  • In pale skin types unwanted and patchy melanin production is often a result of prolonged sun exposure, acne and acne scarring, or dermatitis and in women specifically, can result from stimulation by the female sex hormones in a condition called chloasma.
  • The most important step in treatment is the use of a good quality, high factor sunscreen to prevent stimulation of the melanocytes, thus reducing the production of melanin. Often a suitable regime will significantly improve pigmentation. If this is not the case then chemical peels, fillers and botox can all be used to treat the condition.
  • Loss of Facial Definition
Facial definition naturally alters and decreases with age as the skin's support structures become more lax, and allow the skin to sag. Hollowness of the cheeks can also be caused by weight loss.
  • Lost cheek definition can be corrected by use of certain types of dermal fillers. Similarly the cheek bones and jaw line can be enhanced by injectable fillers.
  • These treatments usually take 2 or 3 sessions to get the optimum result, as the fillers need to build-up in a gradual way, with the result assessed after each treatment to ensure a successful cosmetic result.
  • The following fillers are commonly used at Your Derma:
  • - Restylane
    - Perlane
    - Restylane
    - Sculptura

  • Loss of Lip Definition

Lips naturally tend to look thinner as we age as the skin's support structure decreases and it loses its elasticity. The loss of volume from the pink part of the lips starts typically from the mid thirties onwards. Lips lose plumpness sooner if you are a regular smoker, as toxins from cigarettes increase collagen breakdown in the skin.
  • Dermal fillers are a good treatment for redefining lips as they readily replace the lost volume in the, leading to better lip definition and reduction of wrinkles around the mouth, therefore improving the whole look of the face.
  • The injection of fillers into the lips is a delicate procedure, in a very sensitive area and to help make sure this is as pain free as possible we encourage patients to have a local anaesthetic injection, in the same way as a dentist would when working on teeth.
  • The fillers typically used at Your Derma for this are:
  • - Restylane Lipp
    - Restylane
    - Perlane
    - Laresse

  • Hair Removal

Unwanted hair is a recurrent and time consuming problem. Laser techniques can be used to significantly reduce or permanently remove hair in unwanted places. This usually takes 2-8 treatments, and works best on darker hair types.
  • The laser penetrates the layers of the skin and permanently destroys or damages the hair follicle, slowing or stopping hair growth.
  • Laser hair removal can be used to all areas of the body, for instance:
  • - Upper lip
    - Cheeks
    - Underarm areas
    - Bikini line
    - Legs

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Fine lines and wrinkles are often treated most effectively with a combination of treatments. Following a full cosmetic consultation with a Your derma cosmetic doctor, a treatment programme will be suggested.
  • The following therapies are often part of this recommended treatment programme:

    - Botox (botulinum toxin)
    - Dermal fillers eg Restylane
    - Chemical peels
    - Laser photo-rejuvenation

  • Aged Hands
Rejuvenation of the skin on the backs of the hand can be performed using a variety of techniques. Reducing age spots and firming the skin can really enhance hand appearance. The principle treatments for this, often used in combination, are:
  • - Chemical skin peels
    - Dermal fillers, especially Restylane Vital
    - Laser skin rejuvenation

  • Acne and Acne Scarring
The vast majority of people will, at some time, suffer from a greater or lesser degree of acne. In most people it is self limiting and needs no medical intervention. Occasionally, however, acne can be severe and disfiguring. It also seems to be becoming more common in women in their 30's and 40's.
  • The following techniques be used to help acne and acne scarring:
  • - Skin care
    - Chemical peels
    - Laser treatments

  • Unwanted Moles, Skin Tags and Cysts
Your derma's doctors provide a minor operations service for removal of moles, skin tags, cysts or other lesions. The precise nature of the procedure will depend on the type of lesion and its location.
  • Most minor operations will require a local anaesthetic in the skin around the lesion prior to removal. Some skin tags may be removed by simple "cryotherapy" which freezes the unwanted tag making it fall off the skin

  • Veins on Face and Legs
The appearance of fine pink and purple veins on the face is a frequent problem as skin ages. There are a variety of causes of these, but mainly they simply part of the aging process of the skin.
  • Small facial veins are particularly suitable for laser treatment. Usual 1 or 2 treatments are sufficient to remove or significantly reduce such veins.
  • Leg veins can similarly be treated with lasers, however larger veins may need to be treated with "injected schlerotherapy". If this the case the doctor will use a fine needle to inject a chemical into the vein that makes it shrink and disappear or diminish.

  • Excessive Sweating
Excess sweating under the arms, medically know as hyperhydrosis, is a common problem. Its often occurs in stressful situations, which can make stress even worse. The excess sweating can be treated using Botox (botulinum toxin type A). Botox is carefully injected into the affected area. Normally takes 1 or 2 treatments are enough to significantly reduce or eliminate the problem.
  • Non Surgical Face Lift
What is really meant by the term Non Surgical Face Lift - Non surgical face lift is a term used to describe the use of multiple products and techniques to reduce the visual signs of facial ageing.
  • How can a non surgical face lift be achieved - A non surgical face lift is achieved by designing a bespoke programme of treatments to meet the individuals needs, addressing fine lines and wrinkles with Botox and dermal fillers such as Restylane, but goes further by using dermal fillers to re-sculpture cheek and chin definition, and to 'fill' areas of the lower face which may have lost volume due to collagen reduction.
  • The non surgical face lift also includes a structured and intense programme of skin rejuvenation using lasers, microdermabrasikon and chemical resurfacing.
  • Why should I consider a non surgical face lift?
    - Non surgical face lift do not carry the same risks as surgery [anaesthetic, infection risks]
    - Non surgical face lift do not involve the same social 'down time' as surgical procedures
    - Non surgical face lift results 'appear' over a longer time period, making the enhancement less 'obvious' than an instant fix.
  • Because the treatments are given over a sequence of appointments, there is time for 'manoeuvre' i.e., the non surgical face lift can be 'tweaked' and 'altered' at each visit - giving the patient more control over the final outcome and level of enhancement
  • Realistically, how long would the course of treatments to achieve non surgical face lifts take? - A normal non surgical face lift programme would take 12 weeks - but the affects would start to be noticed during this time.
  • How long would a non surgical face lift last? - The regime of treatments used in a non surgical face lift have different longevity of effects, but experience demonstrates, on average between 9-18 months.
  • Non surgical face lift outcomes are easy and economical to maintain with routine regular visits to the clinic
